Backbend Lab
Backbends can be powerful, expansive, and deeply energizing—when practiced with intention. In this workshop, we’ll focus on building strength, stability, and mobility through the spine, shoulders, and hips to support a sustainable and safe backbending practice.
We’ll break down key poses like:
Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) – how to enter it safely and confidently
Camel Pose and Mermaid Pose – including how to flip your grip in Mermaid
Flipping your Down Dog into Wild Thing and beyond
Transitions (as time permits)
Rather than chasing the shape, we’ll prioritize integrity over aesthetics—developing body awareness and tools to support long-term growth in your practice.
What to Expect:
✨ Pose breakdown & alignment tips
✨ Targeted drills and prep work
✨ Use of props (blocks, straps, bolsters, wall) to support mobility, strength, and alignment
✨ A vinyasa-based flow focused on backbending
✨ Tips for safely exploring deeper variations
✨ Time to ask questions, explore, and play
You’ll walk away with:
– A deeper understanding of how backbends work in your body
– Tools to help balance flexibility with strength
– A refreshed approach to complex transitions
– Insight into protecting your spine and honoring your body’s limits
Who is this for?
This workshop is for anyone with a regular yoga practice who wants to explore backbends more deeply—whether you're tight, curious, or cautious. You don’t need to be able to do a full Wheel Pose (yet)—just come with a willingness to explore. Remember, everyBODY is different.
Please always consult your doctor prior to registration.
